Camera Malfunction?

Has anyone ever seen a camera do this? Does anyone know what could be causing this? I'm hoping to get a new camera soon but until the money comes in I'm stuck with a camera that does this... :(

Lightroom corrupt catalog

Hi all.

I'm writing with a dreadful Lightroom problem. I have a corrupt catalog. I have read a bunch of blogs and help forums on how to deal with this. They all focus on using a backup catalog and trashing the corrupt one. Here's the dreadful part of my problem: I stopped backing up my Lightroom catalog a looooong time ago because it was taking a long time and because I mistakenly... [More]

Signing Prints

Hi all

Just after some thoughts and advice on the signing of prints for gallery work. I recently had a show and one comment I got from a buyer was they did not like my signature and text on the bottom of the mat. OK I can do special editions for them but how else do we go about identifying our work and labeling our prints. I have seen a few around that have the tiltle on a card on... [More]

Best Online Publisher for My New Book

Last fall, I published a limited edition landscape photo book using www.mypublisher.com, which offered great quality, reliability and turn-around.

Now I'm getting ready to publish another short-run photo book and need a vertical format plus the ability to easily mix text on the page with photos. mypublisher appears to still offer only horizonal format, asuka looks like a square... [More]

How Do I Post A Page?

First, you must register and then log in. Once you have gotten that far you can look for a link that says "New Page" or "New Post".

New Page is at the top of your Control Panel under the Create menu; in the right sidebar for Forum categories; and in the top bar of the Gallery categories.

It seems that many people are confused by the term "page" versus something like "post" -... [More]

Folksonomy and the Tag Cloud

For our astute readers, you may remember I had commented some time ago about our tags on this site self-organizing. Well, I thought it was time I followed up a bit for those who have nothing better to do than read up on the latest psycho-social web design/usage trends.

First, here is a great link to Folksonomy at Wikipedia:

How big should I make my image?

That's entirely up to you. However, some things to consider:

1) There is very little security on the file you share. Right clicking is not disabled (yet), so anyone can grab what you share. I am going to start adding my copyright watermark to my images.

2) The site will automagically scale your images for use as thumbnails. Depending on where you are on the site will... [More]

What's a Group?

Groups are another way to organize members and their content. Any member can create a group, and it can be open or closed. Open groups allow any member to join. Closed groups require the Group Owner (creator) to add members. It is important to note that a Group is not a folder, it is merely an association performed automatically by the site. You could think of it as a Smart Folder where... [More]

What is RSS?

Really Simple Syndication is a standard that allows sharing web-based information between applications. You can share between web sites, read them in RSS readers, or even your browser (if it supports).

The simplest way to explain is to show you - Click below and you will see the list of external RSS Feeds that are available on sialumni. You can even add your own feed (more on that... [More]

How many files can I attach to a page?

You can attach as many as you want, but you have to do them one at a time. So, you can create a page with a file attachment as you usually do and go to edit the page again. At this point you can choose another file to attach and just save it again. Repeat this process as required.
One caution - the current site template is not really setup to handle more than one image per page.... [More]
