Banned from RMSP Flickr Group?
Anyone but me get banned from the RMSP Flickr Group? I don't think I have pissed anyone off lately, but you never know with me :-} Seriously though, I don't think I have even posted anything to the group. Just checking.
Thanks,
Coby
The Latest SIAlumni.com News
Hard to believe it was SI 2003 when the idea for this site came to me as I was sitting in one of the classes in Missoula. Much has changed since then. The internet and social networking have added terms to our vocabulary like google and tweet. And now there's Facebook. So what to do with SIAlumni.com?
I am not going to let it die. I think it's important to have a quieter place... [More]
Site Migration and Updates
All,
Yes, we are still waiting on me to plan our migration to a new web system for SIAlumni.com. As it turns out I am currently focusing most of my commercial work on developing web systems and I now have access to the right people to help us make the move. I will handle the design/architecture of the new site (it will most likely become a group on my site - something like...

SIAlumni.com Fall Update
Hope everyone is doing well out there! I have not forgotten about ya'll. We will be getting an upgrade, but I need to finish a few other steps first. Metanomy Inc. is a very soon to be Colorado Non-profit Corporation. As soon as my lawyer gets the papers done we will be on our way. SIAlumni will be one of the services provided by Metanomy Inc. Here are some of the other projects that... [More]
Lightroom 2
Adobe has released Lightroom 2. Looks like some local adjustments have been added.
Don't Give Up
All,
We are clearly loosing some steam on the site, but please do not give up. I am as guilty as the next and it hurts the site when we do not have regular contributions from at least a few members. I am hard at work on a few parallel projects that have kept me from the site and photography in general. But the good news is they all have to do with social networking on the web and...

... [More]Assignments Etc...
My apologies. I have been swamped the last few months doing SOTP (stuff other than photography). So, let's call April's assignment: "Good Ideas for Future Assignments."
Post your ideas in the comments and I'll start working them into our monthly assignments starting in May.
And I have not forgotten about our site upgrade either. Still looking at the end of this year by the... [More]
BW Photo Paper for Sale
I have a bunch of unopened Ilford BW photo paper for sale. I bought too much when I was at SI, and I probably won't get back into a darkroom for quite a while.
See the attached PDF describing all of the papers I have for sale.
Thanks!

Mar 08 Assignment - Redo
Since we did not have much interest and I am SUCH a nice guy I'll just extend Feb's assignment to include March too.
Weather and it's influences.
Six of the World's Grimmest Tourist Destinations
I found a new awesome article:
http://www.sixwise.com/newsletters/05/08/24/six_of_the_worlds_grimmest_tourist_destinations.htm
These places would be great to photograph. I've already photographed Alcatraz -- although you kind of have to stay near the group.
... [More]places / things to shoot in NYC
Hi all,
I'm going to NYC the week of April 6th and the week of September 21st. I'll be in meetings all day on the weekdays of those weeks -- so I'm thinking of extending my trips over the weekends to do some shooting.
Anyone have recommendations of where and what to shoot? I'm sure there are a ton of things, but I wanted to get some recommendations.
I probably... [More]
Aperture 2 Released
Apple has released Aperture 2.0 and I just got done taking it for a spin. Here are some thoughts:
- Interface has changed for the better. A bit less cluttered and the filmstrip option for thumbnails is nice. Someone at Apple has been using Lightroom I guess. Imagine that - a better interface through user testing. Who would have thought it. But that's a whole other post... [More]
Feb 08 Assignment - Weather
Well, we are a week into Feb and one of the big items on the news (besides the elections) has been the weather. So, I thought it fitting to see who can capture the subtle, and sometimes not so subtle, influences from the weather around us. I have been on a trip to California and get to go back to my truck in IL that, by now, is probably plowed under a few feet of snow. Anyone have a... [More]

Winter Ice
These were taken yesterday after a bit of fog and ice. Used Lightroom; used the black and white conversion; then manipulated the histogram to stretch dynamic range.
For those interested I have been really working hard to decide between Aperture and Lightroom and I think Lightroom is going to win. More on that later.

Cell phone reception booster
Hey all,
I haven't been here in forever, but I ran across something that people might find helpful. I know a lot of the nature / landscape / travel photogs get caught in areas with bad phone reception. I found this on YouTube to help you. Coffee is helpful in so many ways!
2008 SIAlumni.com Roadmap
All,
I wanted to post a quick update on what I am thinking for 2008. First, I have been working with a different web system (Drupal for those interested) for some other projects that I am involved with through my consulting business. It offers some pretty exciting features and I think addresses some of the issues we have been having here at SIAlumni.com.
