Photo paper bargain shopping!

Just had to share with people who would truly care and understand...

Went to Office Max with my mom today and decided to browse through the photo paper aisle. Usually I don't pay much attention to the aisle of store-brand, HP-brand, and Kodak-brand low-end photo papers, but I was killing time. Turns out they actually had some of the higher-quality Epson paper in 8.5x11 and 4x6... [More]

What to do with all those old slides and negs...

I know many of us (from the olden days of film cameras) probably have our own slide scanners for digitizing slides, but for those of you who don't or just don't have the time to scan old slides and negs, I discovered a neat website -- http://www.scancafe.com

You send them a box of slides, they scan, make standard corrections (color, exposure,... [More]

What would you do with $4,000?

No, I didn't win the lottery... (gotta play to win!) I have just been thinking about spending some of the freelance job money that I managed to squirrel away over the years.

So here are some options I am considering:

1) Go crazy and buy a Canon 1DmkIII --> I think they have almost got the bugs worked out... besides, it has to be an improvement over my 3.5 year old 20D, right?... [More]

Downtown Omaha Holiday Lights

We went to Nebraska for Thanksgiving to visit family there... we don't get back there very often and a visit at the end of November was a chilling reminder why!

There is a pedestrian mall area in downtown Omaha that is around a tributary of the Missouri River and at Thanksgiving they light the area for the holiday season.

I took this photo on a whim Saturday night, so I was... [More]

Autumn Leaves

With the drought here in late summer/early fall, it took forever for our colors to come in. Right before they were about to go, we got some rain and things brightened up.

Broken Bat

Brandon Jones, a rookie in just his second game with the Atlanta Braves after being called up from Richmond, got his first major league broken bat in his third at bat. Unfortunately, he was 0-for-3 for the night against the Marlins.

Concert/Band Photography

So, my brother is close friends with this rock band in Charlottesville, VA (where we both went to college) called Under the Flood. Last weekend they were playing here in Richmond, so I asked the guys if I could try my hand at taking some photos during their show, and they said OK. (Promotional Plug: They are actually really good and they are on the verge of signing with a... [More]

Winter in Springtime

Over Easter weekend, we got a rare late snowfall in Richmond, VA. We didn't get hardly any snow all winter, but in April when it should be 65 degrees, we got almost an inch of snow!!! Anyway, it was melting quickly but I tried to run out and grab a shot or two to mark the occasion.

I headed over to Bryan Park, which is known for it's large azalea garden. I thought it would be neat... [More]

Complimentary

Took this at the very end of February, so hope that counts! :) In March, all I have shot so far has been baseball, baseball, baseball!!!

(And I guess then it is only fitting that I submit it at the very end of March... ha!)

I know flowers are cliche, but I still like trying to find new angles on an old idea. The strong red-green, complimentary colors relationship struck me... [More]

Missoula featured in hometown paper

This past Sunday, an article on Missoula ran in the Travel section of my hometown newspaper, the Richmond Times-Dispatch. It was a nice little trip down memory lane, complete with pictures of Higgins Street and the Clark River and the old Iron Horse...

RMSP Survey

Did everyone get a survey from RMSP in the mail? They are surveying their Professional Studies students to see where we are now as photographers and also to get some feedback on the instruction we received as it pertains to us today.

Anyway, just as a reminder, they would like to get responses by this Friday (Dec. 15), but I am sure they will take them past that point.

Holiday Fun: SnapTotes!

I recently came across an interesting company called SnapTotes.

They offer cute handbags and totes with your photo (or one of their stock photos) on the side. There are a number of different styles and you can customize them by choosing the lining color and other options, depending on the bag.

A number of online print fulfillment vendors sell tote bags and other products... [More]
