Try this one... more contrast, darker feel by using Dark Strokes filter in photoshop. Feels like I'm getting closer.
Trying to crop the bottom did not satisfy me. Maybe it's because I'm used to 2x3 perspective, or maybe it made her head look too big... you can of course try yourself with a piece of paper.

I like this photo a lot! (maybe its cause I like tatoos)
have you thought of making it an infared photo? If you get a chance, I'd love to see what this could look like with a b&w conversion, and a little infared toying.

Thanks Jonathan!
Here is B&W, but how do you do infrared toying after-the fact?
doing the infared is waaaaay too long for me to post it here. I'll have to dig through my files to find my notes, but if you're interested, give me your fax number and I'll send it to you!

If you save it as a PDF or Text doc you can upload it as an attachment. The site will serve it as an attachment that people can download. PDF is probably most efficient is there is line art etc, but a plain old rich text work fine too. You could cut and paste as a post AND provide a text file attachment for download. I have been hoping that we would see more tips and tricks start to trickle in so we can develop more of a knowledge base.
Coby, If I had the file on my computer, I would have gladly posted it. :) but, the info is in my notes, and I really don't feel like typing all of the pages into word. the info is pretty neat though! and if you go to ryan mastro's page (here in this site) you can get a link to his website where he displays a bunch of infared photos.
As for the tatoo'd chick: with her skin tone and eye makeup, I think it would make a sweet infared photo.
you know, if a person is really into infared, there are even places out there that will convert your digital camera into a pure infared camera. there was a guy at SI/DI 2005 who had a cannon 10d converted. it took some really sweet photos!!

Mark Johnson has a video tutorial showing how to get an infrared look in PS at http://www.radiantvista.com/video_tutorials/
I like the framing of the shot. One thing that bothers me about this image is that the brightest part is at the bottom edge, and there is some glare there. It leads my eye there, whereas I want to spend time on the face and tatoos. (Maybe you guys feel differently? ;-)
Good point Laura, I agree it's hot. I'll see what I can do.
Steve,
Thanks! I don't think I can crop too much off the bottom because I think there needs to be a little space below each banner tat. But there is fine tuning to do, which I've been working on a little, to make this a more striking image. I hope people are ok with the creative process taking up multiple posts here! Thanks to all, you are helping to make better images.

Somewhere in between for me. I like the bold look of the tattoos after dark strokes but I liked the detail in the hair prior.

Please don"t lose the blue eyes. To me they are the most intense part of the image. Tatoos are so common these days they are almost a cliche. But these eyes are incredable.
